Hello friends!
Here I am in Brooklyn, sitting at Lauren's dining room table while she's off doing...something. I'm not actually sure where she is; she left in a whirlwind of "I'm late" and "See you later." I plan to spend the next few hours drinking her coffee, eating her toast and peanut butter, and reading her FANTASTIC new middle grade book, THE SPINDLERS. I started it last night and it is truly imaginative and great fun to read. I giggled out loud a few times!
Later today we'll head over to the Paper Lantern Lit bbq, where I am super-psyched to finally meet Lauren Morrill, Fiona Paul, Kate Ellison, and other fab authors in person. Not to mention the coze-toze bloggers who will be in attendance! I bought a new shirt -- yay Target -- just for this occasion. (During the same shopping trip, I purchased a long skirt for the first time in many years. A black flowy number. How do I wear this? Please advise.)
Then, tonight...shhhhhhh, TOP SECRET (thank god my mom barely knows how to use the internet): I am surprising my mom for her 63rd birthday! Today's the big day, and she has no idea I am in the city -- she has no reason to know/think I'm not up in Maine as usual. My dad is taking her out to dinner tonight, and I'm just going to BE THERE! SURPRISE!
And the fun just never stops. Tomorrow is the super-hooray book signing/reading extravaganza at Books of Wonder (18 W. 18th St).
Then back to Maine, where supposedly the Carpenter will have renovated our entire kitchen in the span of two days. He's a genius.
Basically, life is good.
Now back to that peanut butter.
